Introduction
Traffic congestion arises when there is higher heed on traffic to the extent that it surpasses the available means in the transport system. The congestion usually varies with times of the day. Rush hours and rainy seasons exhibit highest traffic congestions with high traffic volumes on highways and roads. Streets in major cities of the world experience traffic congestion as a result of transportation networks that include the use of roads, rails, pedestrians and commuters on bicycle among others.
Understanding of traffic congestion needs comprehension of physical operations and the users' point of view regarding congestion and its impacts. A physical operation on traffic includes the use of vehicles, motorcycles, pedestrians in all the networks as well as how such aspect compete for the limited spaces in the street and network (Komanoff, 2014). On the other hand, the user's perspective requires an understanding of their expectations about the road, rail, air and other networks operations. Traffic congestion causes problems in towns especially on free movement of people and goods as well as vehicles. Besides, the different daily business performances experience delays and increase in insecurity among others. Such delays in traffic due to congestion result to economic sabotage in various nations. Also, most towns exhibit cases of theft and terrorism due to traffic congestion (Komanoff, 2014). Therefore, there is a need to avail proper security to curb such problems especially with efficient management of traffic congestion.
Nature and Extent of Congestion as an Economic Sabotage in both New York and Cairo
New York and Cairo are essential cities that exhibit traffic congestion in the current century. Whenever a person visits these towns, there is a widespread stressful feeling from traffic congestion while moving from one point of the city to another. The gridlock in these urban centers makes people late to work. It is a significant hindrance and loathes to the economy of the town as deliveries cannot arrive on time (Komanoff, 2014). Even though traffic congestion is a vital sign of economic growth and expansion, however, there is the inevitable adverse financial effect on the economy. Ambulances are getting blocked with casualties, some succumbing to preventable deaths while the rates of reported accidents are growing from massive traffic congestion. These implications are detrimental to growth and expansion of the towns. Few cities experience positive impacts of congestion. For instance, in some developed States in America, traffic congestion indicates the employed population who are using the roads to access to their workstation (Komanoff, 2014). In some cases, traffic would translate to an active age group who are participating the gross domestic development of the states. However, both New York and Cairo are cities that experience disadvantages of traffic congestion that outweigh their advantages (Komanoff, 2014).
