The Diamond Necklace is as Fake as Madame Loisel ‘The Necklace’ is also referred to as ‘The Diamond Necklace’ written by Guy De Maupassant, French in the 1884, published in Le Gaulois which is a French Newspaper. It has dramatic ending inspiring Henry James in the story ‘Paste’. Conor Mitchell dramatized it in a musical model (Anson & Wan, 2011). The story circles on Charles and Madame Mathilde Loisel. Wonderful jewels are observed with Mathilde ultimately marrying a clerk struggling to make ends meet. Mathilde lost a borrowed necklace in the Public Instruction Party. Mathilde and her husband take ten years to pay for the loans used to pay for the necklace. Mathilde confesses to Forestier on the lost necklace only to learn it was a paste and not real diamond. The story has been adapted by a number of artists (Clugston, 2010). Literacy themes The story on ‘The Necklace’ indicates an ambitious and greedy woman in the middle class willing under all costs to be counted among the upper class society. The Husband works as a government clerk, the greed destroys the relationship with a friend. The story circles on ‘the diamond necklace’ symbolizing themes of high social class, wealth, the fact that ambition can be harmful and the theme indicating that looks may be illusions. Necklace identifies with beauty in the real world (Anson & Wan, 2011). Theme of the story Theme of reality and appearances is evident, there is a statement asserting that truth is beauty and beauty is truth, the story goes ahead to indicate that the assertions are at times illusions. Madame Loisel is beautiful like diamond necklace but she is unhappy at all. Appearances are at times deceptive (Anson & Wan, 2011).
