This article is an investigative paper to find a suitable and feasible solution. I have completed most of my writing. The composition probably has three parts. State the problem (let the audience know the seriousness of the problem and need to be resolved urgently) Solve (discuss existing solutions in the world) Specific implementation (tell the feasible solution) The content about this part will be uploaded in the file. The tone and facts of the question need to be strengthened. Solving the problem requires more text and sources, and makes the steps for the solution more specific. Then combined with the final content to modify the introduction and summary. Note the format of the citations. Please read the document carefully.

Assignment 3: Writing to Solve a Problem

ENG 201

Instructions

In this 10-12 page essay, you will develop a more thoroughly researched and explicitly elaborated argument that identifies a specific problem, analyzes its causes and effects, and proposes a feasible solution. The problem might be at school; at your workplace; in your community; at your church; in the local, state, or federal government; or in some other specific context. You will need to clearly identify the problem, providing evidence to support your claim that the problem is, in fact, a problem and then analyze the causes and effects of the problem. Then, you will discuss possible solutions that others have proposed or tried and then propose a feasible solution to the problem. The key word here is feasible. If the solution is too expensive, takes too much time and/or effort to implement, or is unlikely to be implemented for some other reason—such as logistics, ethics, etc.—then it is not feasible. Finally, you will develop a specific implementation plan to carry out your solution at the level of your problem. The plan should be detailed and help readers see how the solution could, in fact, be carried out.

Objectives

  • Go beyond simply arguing for change as you now come up with solutions.

  • Form an implementation plan so readers can see how your solutions are feasible.

  • Use empirical data to enhance readers’ understanding of the problem and/or solution(s).

  • Incorporate visuals into the essay in a way that adds to the content.

Criteria

1. You are required to synthesize information from at least 12 credible sources that have expert knowledge on the topic. You will use a combination of summary, paraphrase, and quotation from your sources to explain the problem and propose your solutions, but no more than 10% of the essay should be direct quotes.

2. Visuals are required for this essay, and they specifically enhance the understanding of the topic (so no gratuitous clip art). They should be labeled correctly in the documentation style you are using, cited correctly as well, and explained thoroughly in the essay.

3. It is highly suggested that you use personal anecdotes, media examples, and/or hypothetical examples to help readers understand the points you are making.

4. Write in a voice, tone, and style that is suitable for the genre, purpose, and audience of the essay.

5. This essay, as well as all formal essays, is required to be formatted and cited in a specific documentation style of your choice (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.). Please make sure that you have a current handbook as a guide and see me if you have any questions about this.

Assessment

In addition to the English Department grading guidelines that can be found in the syllabus, you will receive a specific rubric for the assignment that breaks the evaluation down into several categories: Responsiveness, Thesis/Purpose, Organization/Unity, Support/Development, Presentation, and Peer review. The activities and discussions that we do and have in class will specifically help you in each of these areas.

Writing Process

  • Choose a problem that is of concern to your chosen audience and also choose one feasible solution to that problem that you can convince readers should be implemented.

  • Choose the scope of the problem and solution you are tackling.

  • Read several sources on that topic and choose ones that you feel are a) the most credible on the subject and b) that will help make your points more convincing to your readers.

  • Decide what additional information you want to include to bolster the strength of your arguments, such as visuals, empirical data, media examples, personal anecdotes, etc.

  • Outline your essay:

    • Intro with a strong thesis

    • Body

      • Makes a case that the problem is a problem

      • Goes over solutions and selects the best solution and why

      • Details the implementation plan so readers can see how the solution would happen

  • Conclusion that reemphasizes the main points and why this solution and plan are the best chance possible at solving this problem

  • Write the first draft

  • Make revisions to lengthen and strengthen your draft

  • Peer review the draft and then revise it accordingly

  • Proofread for surface level errors as well to make sure that the formatting and documentation is correct

  • Turn in the final draft electronically on Blackboard in a Word or rich text file.

School Bullying
Stop Bullying
In the United States, 83 percent of girls and 79 percent of boys reported being bullied. (Statistics and Laws. n.d.) Nowadays, so many students live under bullying pressure. Most of the school environments have become a great threat to the security of the kids. The data from JAMA network indicates that “bullying is a strong risk factor for the later development of psychopathologic behaviors.” It makes them have a lot psychological issues that also directly affect their academic performance. Most victims of bullying cannot concentrate on their studies since they keep on meditating on the ill act done to them. The complex nature of the problem makes it harder for parents and the people around the incident to pay attention and offer maximum protection to the kids. Parents never get involved unless they hear of certain isolated issues that draw their attention. Therefore, people always ignore this big problem. It is ironical that most parents do not understand what their children could be going through. To help solve this problem, it is crucial to consider a long term solution. Students need to be educated on bullying and how it affects them. Students should be taught about social sciences, issues to do with body shape, race, cultures, etc. It should be made perfectly clear to students that these are but aspects of diversity and one need not be sensitive to such. Having these sessions should help build excellent bridges for students to understanding how they should handle bullies in the case of the incidents. For parents or adults, they should change their behavior and communication methods. Also some children grow under harsh conditions in their family settings (Divecha, 2019). Moreover, adult anti-bullying education organizations should play a more important role. Finally, government should join in to solve the problem to work on making policies to support anti-bullying education become actualized. The solution focuses on educating students and parents. Although the government can implement various intervention methods, parents and teachers play the most significant roles in the action to stop bullying. However, the process may take long and students should learn the precautionary measures to enhance their safety. And adults can do better job to guide and protect their children. This solution is going to greatly reduce the incidences of bullying in schools.
The professor of Toledo university Dake who focuses on public health education aspect writes that “the nature and extent of bullying at school” is quite complex. He continues to say that the children who participate in bullying have a 2.8 to 4.0 times higher risk of depression than those who do not, and a 30-32 times higher risk of victimization(Dake, J. A., Price, J. H., & Telljohann, S. K. 2003). The risk brings lifetime impacts on the children (Scherman & Annunziato, 2018). In this case, the kids face hardships and difficulties while dealing with various issues later in life.
School bullying is a social problem that has existed for a long time, impacting the lives of most students in the United States negatively. The continual existence of bullying originates from the general overlooking by schools and comm...
