Smoking is a habit that starts off as a sociable practice that then turn into a chronic problem. In most of the cases the habits starts during the young ages especially at adolescent, when people are most influenced. The highest number of smokers, do not enjoy the habit relative to the fact that it is quite addictive ("What Are the Risks of Smoking? - NHLBI, NIH", 2016) ("What Are the Risks of Smoking? - NHLBI, NIH", 2016). This is mostly due to the fact that, when they started, it was not something that they intended to carryon for long. However, due to the fact that smoking is addictive. As such while one starts the habit as something they are trying because they say someone else doing it; they end up developing a bad habit. What is more, is that, quitting smoking is a very difficult endeavor. The majority of smokers are constantly trying to quite the habit without success. It is important to note that, it is not a habit that can be practiced in the public spaces. This is in part associated with the fact that, other than the smokers there is also the aspect of the second-hand smoke. As such, it is not just the smokers that are affected by the harmful smoke but bystanders as well. It also resonates with the statistics at the Center for Disease Control and prevention, which point to the habit causing more than 480,000 deaths every other year (CDC, 2016). More than ten times the number of people that have died in the American wars, have died from smoking cigarettes ("Smoking: Do you really know the risks?", 2016). More than 90% of lung cancer cases are attributed to habit. At the same time more than 80% of patients that suffer from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, is caused by smoking. Other than the respiratory complications, smoking also causes heart diseases, among others (CDC, 2016).
Hypothesis; smoking is dangerous but avoidable habit that compromises the smokers’ health and leads to fatalities.
More than half of all the smokers die from smoking related diseases. There are more than 60 chemicals that are found in cigarettes all of which are harmful to the human body.
