The article “Running speed increases plantar load more than percent bodyweight on an Alter-G treadmill” concludes that an increase in gait speed results into a larger increase of Fmax for the total foot than the increase of indicated percent bodyweight (BW) in the ranges used (range of 6km/hr to 16km/hr). In the initial phase of the rehabilitation process, sportsmen need to decrease plantar loading to I BW by walking at a speed of below 6km/hr (Thompson & Einarsson, 2017). The research was based on two problems:
* There is little information to guide individuals during their rehabilitation process yet treadmills are widely used.
* An increase in velocity increases plantar load but the relationship between the two variables is not known if similar progressions are performed in surroundings with reduced gravity.
Thompson’s findings are similar to what Kram found in his groundbreaking research that was based on a range of 10.8km/hr to 18.0km/hr. However, both Thompson’s and Kram’s work are very different to what Rapar et al found even though the three works are closely related. The discrepancy in the findings can be attributed to the fact that Thompson used a plantar reading from the Pedar-X while Rapar et al used a surface-placed accelerator.
