Theoretical Influences
In nursing, there are a number of theories that have been developed in an attempt to vividly describe and elaborate the phenomenon of nursing. The theories affect the nursing practice, and nurses use them to enhance their knowledge and expertise as they embark on the provision of nursing care. For instance, Novice to Expert theory is a nursing theory by Patricia Benner. The theory states that nurses gain knowledge and expertise of nursing care through a great foundation of knowledge and experiences. She states that if a nurse wants to become an expert, he or she must have experience, as it is the prerequisite of being an expert nurse. She also adds that expert nurses are not those individuals who are highly remunerated but are those who render patients with quality nursing care. The theory, therefore, affects the individuals in various ways. For example, nurses make sure that they are providing patients with quality health care so that they can be termed as expert nurses. The nurses also ensure that they have access to nursing education so that they gain skills and expertise that is required in practicing the profession of nursing.
The transcultural nursing theory is a theory developed by Madeleine Leininger, which states that nurses need to understand the different cultures on nursing beliefs and values if they aim at providing patients with meaningful and efficient nursing care. It concentrates on the idea that unlike cultures have unlike caring demeanors and unlike health and sickness beliefs and values. The theory influences those in the nursing profession in that they work towards gaining an understanding of the care values and beliefs of different cultures, which create the foundation of rendering culture-specific care. The need theory is a nursing theory developed by Virginia Henderson, and it involves her emphasis on the significance of elevating a patient’s independence to improve their prolonged healing progress after a condition of being hospitalized. The theory influences the nurses in that they aim at identifying what the patients’ needs to gain independence so that they will be able to take care of themselves after hospitalization without the help of the health care providers.
Innovation
Innovation in nursing has developed into a more and more significant concept in the literature of nursing. Innovation is important in nursing because it aids in developing new ideas and practices that will aid in improving the care given to patients and improving the activities in in clinical settings. Examples of innovations that have developed in the nursing profession include the evidence-based practice that involves the use of everyday experiences, research evidence, and expertise by nurses so that they come up with effective solutions to problems encountered in clinical settings. The use of communication voice devices such as Vocera to improve the communication between nurses is also an innovation that has been developed in the nursing practice. Vocera device improves the communication between nurses and therefore the provision of care to patients is made more effici...
