OUTLINE
* Introduction
* Attention grabber: If a majority of the American population is already insured, or can afford a health cover, then what is the meaning of affordable care act (ACA), which aims to make healthcare free or affordable? Only about 28.5 million Americans (8.8 percent of the U.S. population) lack a health insurance (Berchick, Hood, & Barnett, 2018). However, one of the objectives of Healthy People 2020 is to promote and maintain health and manage and prevent diseases to reduce early deaths, unnecessary disability and achieve equity in healthcare among all Americans (Healthy People, 2019). Today, I will talk about what is ACA, what are we currently doing, why are we doing it that way, the public perceptions and shortcomings, and how well the current policy is working.
* Thesis: While most Americans currently afford health insurance, the United States is yet to achieve the objectives of Healthy People 2020, and the role of ACA, which has received positive opinions across the country with the exception of the Republicans viewing the policy as unreasonable, is to ensure health equity among all populations.
* What is ACA? President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) on March 23, 2010, with the main aim of increasing affordable care to all Americans. ACA enhances the affordability of health care by offering insurance coverage to over 50 million individuals and managing health care costs by changing the way people access medical services (Adkinson & Chung, 2014).

The policy covers several areas, including coverage for pre-existing conditions, including children and their parental plans, pregnancies, assistance to small firms to provide insurance cover for their workers. As of 2018, it was not possible for health insurers to cancel or deny coverage for individuals with pre-existing conditions.
* The U.S. is ensuring that all individuals, particularly the low-income populations, have access to quality healthcare
* Since ACA uses two strategies to ensure that people have access to quality health care, it is evident that numerous challenges have been encountered in ensuring that these strategies are successful. The main challenges concern access to health coverage as well as accessing quality care once an individual has been insured (Shaw, Asomugha, Conway & Rein, 2014). In turn, the challenges affect the health benefits that would have been associated with expanded coverage.
* Public perception and shortcomings
* There have been divided opinions about the necessity of ACA. Since the law was passed in 2010, the public has been increasingly divided on the effectiveness of the health reform law.
* In 2017, the Republicans wanted to repeal the law, and this motivated KFF Health Tracking Polls to determine the general favorab...
