Everything that we do has a moral aspect attached to it. Sadly, most of us tend to assume this aspect when the conditions are favorable to us. Professor Appiah Anthony raises concerns about our current practices that we should be worried about. Through his use of logical and emotional reasoning, the author has convinced me that we need to assess the issues he has raised and think more critically about other potential problems that we currently do. In this discussion, I analyze how the authors points has convinced me that we need to evaluate our actions.
Reading through Professor Appiah’s article raises several questions on the reader's mind about our current practices and how our future generation will perceive these practices. Currently, many things we do seem reasonable, and thus we do not engage in a discussion of whether they are morally sound. In the same way that we question the rationale behind some traditional practices such as slavery, gender stereotypes, and racism, we should also keep in mind that our future generations will ask the same questions about our practices. Appiah raises concerns over our prison system, the industrial meat production, the institutionalized and isolated elderly, and the environment as possible areas that our future generation will judge us.
