He wanted to start a program that would help meet the social, health, emotional and psychosocial needs of children in pre-school from the low-income earning families. How has HeadStart changed over the years? The program has successfully shoot up from being an eight-week illustration program to being a project that offers full day yearly services and other additional programs. Till today HeadStart has been able to serve more than 35 million children together with their households in both the towns and rural areas of all the states included. Who is eligible to participate in HeadStart? (Specific criteria) Those who can participate in the program include children from age 0-5. The children must come from low income earning households (Lee, 2015). Additionally, they also take in children who come from homeless families and also those from the families that are receiving public assistance such as SSI or TANF. What specific services are provided to students and their families? The HeadStart programs for children promote school readiness for children between 0-5 from poor income earning households by supporting their growth and expansion in an all-around way. The programs offer a variety of services depending on the needs of the children. By having a good relationship with adults and playing a lot the children are able to grow in different aspects of development. Throughout the program, the children, also learn much about English and literature. As far as the health of the children is concerned they receive development and health screening, oral health, mental health support, nutritious meals and many others with the aim of making sure that the children have all the services that need (Morris et al., 2013) .
