Hip hop has been popular among people during recent years, and it affects people’s lives. Hip-hop as an art form that has gradually become a kind of culture. Right now, hip-hop is not only a music genre; it influences how people dance, how people dress, and how people speak. Hip hop has many followers, and also has a lot of beneficiaries. Therefore many youths like to imitate their favorite hip hopper, to buy things like hip hopper, or buy something from hip hop brands Some hip hop lyrics are positive here will be someone doing what the lyrics says. The said element form the hip hop’s impact. The hip hop is changing people’s lives and make the world better through influencing social development, impacting generations positively, addressing societal issues, and transforming music education.
Hip-hop Effects on Social Development and Social Movement
Hip hop culture affects social development, and it’s also a mirror of social movement. To begin with, hip hop affects the way the youth behave, especially in towns (Trapp, 2005). The youth in towns are closer to media that plays hip hop, but the ones in the rural villages do not typically hear hip hop. Therefore, hip hop mostly affects the youth who are in towns. The first thing that hip hop does to the youth is change their lifestyles. Most youths watch hip hop and try to copy what the artists do and wear. They treat the hip hop artists as gods, and they think that everything that the artists do is right.
The other social development that hip hop does is to pass on a message no matter negative or positive. Youths who listen to music that promote violence end up becoming violent, and their behavior affects the whole society (Fung, 2008). However, there are hip hop songs that have positive messages. The difference between the good and bad messages in hip hop creates a push and pull. Society does not really know whether to like or hate hip hop.
As a social movement, hip hop has an empowering energy. Female hip hop artists empower women to feel that they can do what men can do (Trapp, 2005). For example, since men mostly dominate the hip hop industry, it seems like it is a masculine field, but when a woman becomes a hip hop artist, they show other women that they can do what men can do. Additionally, hip hop as a movement has the power to shape the behaviors and beliefs of people. Hip hop fans hold the message that they get from the songs very close to their hearts.
