Gun control has been a major issue in the United States (U.S.) for the last decade (Barney & Schaffner, 2019). Many Americans are of the view that stricter rules should be introduced or a significant change introduced to the second amendment. However, there is still a significant portion of the American public that believes in the right to own a firearm. Hence, the intense debate on gun control. In this paper, I intend to argue the case for gun control.
Out of the more than 10 mass shootings that have occurred in the country in the last three years, the most memorable is the Las Vegas mass shooting. Stephen Paddock killed 58 people and wounded more than 500 (Campion et al., 2017). He was unskilled and untrained, and still, he was able to direct his semi-automatic weapon towards a crowd of more than 20,000 people.
