Australia is a country blessed with quite a lot of natural resources, from the surrounding ocean, the large mineral deposits beneath it, and the endless hours of sunshine on its surface. With all these however, it is quite surprising that the most basic of it all, petroleum is being acquired from overseas due to a lack of alternative sources of energy. Much of the transportation in the country is done using cars that use petroleum products as fuel. There are various options to deal with this, especially the use of the electric vehicle. An electric vehicle (EV) is an automobile that is propelled by one or more traction motors utilizing stored energy from rechargeable batteries. Depending on the sort of vehicle, movement may be given by wheels or propellers driven by rotating engines, or in the case of others, by direct engines. With the current changes in climate, insistence on environmentally friendly fuel, as well as convenience, the use of electric vehicles should be encouraged in Australia.
Electric vehicles can help in the efforts of environmental conservation. While it has been the most widely used form of fuel over the past two to three centuries, petroleum has a serious impact on the environment. The carbon footprint it leaves behind is quite significant. All electric cars have a powered motor rather than an inner combustion engine. The car uses an expensive footing battery-packed to manage the electric motor and must be stopped into a charging station or divider outlet to get power CITATION Lar12 \l 1033 (Larmine, 2012). According to Finkel (2018), electric cars have little to no emissions at all.
He states that there are cars, such as the Corolla which uses petrol emits up to 178 grams per kilometer while the Tesla Model has less emission of 168 grams per kilometer. Comparing Renault Zoe to Corolla is more favorable because Renault emits less than 61 grams per kilometCITATION htt \l 1033 er (Finkel.A., 2018). The first model has lower emissions and hence has a lesser amount of carbon footprint on the environment compared to the later. This brings to the fore the importance and need of trying out the use of the electric car.
Australia needs to try out electric cars so as to also go with the trends and embrace changes. Everything that is deemed outdated or costly on either the pocket or the environment, is slowly being phased out. He gives out a clear example of gas lamps that were used in the streets and later replaced by electric lights (Finkel, 2018). When the utility aspect of a machine is rendered ineffective or not up to standards, there is no need to keep on holding onto it. The same case applies to when there is a better version of the same, which has lesser negative impacts compared to the old one.
The country needs to be at par with the rest of the world, especially the first world, when it comes to changes and improvements. The manufacturing countries of the cars used in Australia, such as the U.S.A. and Japan, have consistently drawn out a plan to phase out diesel engines over the next few years in favor of electric ones(Ryghaug,2019). This also means that they might cease or greatly reduce the production of the same...
