I used the scholarly search engine to come up with the peer-review article. I used the term DSM-D eating disorder to come up with a list of related articles. I then selected an empirical study from the Journal of abnormal psychology. The study shows a survey that was carried out, and the results analyzed, hence making it an empirical study.
DSM-5 stands for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. The classification of disorders outlined in this manual plays an important role in helping healthcare providers to determine how to pay for the treatment of the disorders. The eating disorder is one of the outlined disorders, and, this article provides an analysis of various risk factors that predict the future onset of the DSM-5 binge eating disorders in adolescent females.
Data was collected from three eating disorder prevention trials which targeted some of the young women facing body dissatisfaction issues. A three-year follow-up data were also collected to determine the predictors of bulimia nervosa (BN), anorexia nervosa (AN), the purging disorder (PD), and the binge eating disorder (BED) (Stice, Gau, Rohde & Shaw, 2017). A functional body impairment predicted the onset of all the disorders. Dieting and a low BMI was an indication of the onset of AN. On the other hand, dieting, overeating, body dissatisfaction, the thin-ideal internalization, and mental healthcare were indicators of all the disorders mentioned earlier. Failing to healthy can be termed as the overall cause of the eating disorder.
