Research Paper Instructions:

This is a presentation of the springboard to your research project. This section will objectively (i.e. with an academic tone and vocabulary; without your opinion or first/second person pronouns) summarize the current news story, opinion piece, work of fiction, film, television show, etc. that motivates your research question. You might be asking whether a “new” trend actually has a historical precedent or whether a phenomenon in history that seems similar to a practice today is really the same. Or you might be asking about the cultural, religious, economic or legal basis for a particular custom – or whether a historical movie or TV show is accurate in its depiction of society at the time depicted. This section, then, will present what your reader needs to know to understand the basis of the question you seek to answer through your historical/cultural research. (Requirements: 2-3 pages, 1 source minimum).
You MUST use sources from the library databases or an accredited news source - DO NOT use .com websites, Wikipedia, or Google for this!
You MUST use proper APA citation for this. Follow the guide you were given this week.

It feels like forever since the world has lived a normal, quiet day. As the coronavirus cases are no near to slow down, the only logical reason is to invent an efficient solution. And that solution might be a vaccine. According to CNN “the third phase of clinical trials of Russia's Sputnik V vaccine” (CNN) has begun after the country disclosed the vaccine in August before finalizing the trials - a move that has definitely raised many eyebrows. It is still uncertain if the vaccine will be the magical key to solving the holdups, we all are facing. However, the Russians seems pretty confident in their discovery. According to Dr. Fauci, he says that while a COVID-19 vaccine is likely in a few months, “life might not return to normal until the end of 2021.” (CNN)

The virus causes a deadly respiratory disease, COVID-19, with hundreds of thousands of people around the world succumbing to the same. Besides the high number of COVID-19 fatalities, measures taken to contain the highly contagious virus continues to cripple the global economy as initiatives reduce the productivity of different economic sectors. The massive loss of life, fear, and uncertainty due to the spread of Coronavirus and its devastating effects across the social, political, and economic dimensions of society demands the development of a lasting solution in the form of a vaccine. A news report released by CNN reporter Matthew Chance and his colleagues on September 4, 2020, revealed that Russia’s Covid-19 vaccine, Sputnik V, generates an immune response to the virus CITATION Cha20 \l 1033 (Chance, 2020). Sputnik V makes for a major breakthrough in the fight against the Coronavirus across the world with recent development in its efficacy, raising hopes of a lasting solution to the global pandemic. The vaccine attracts criticism in almost equal measure and thus leading one to wonder, does Sputnik V offer the much-awaited and needed breakthrough in the fight against Coronavirus and the dreaded COVID-19 disease?
However, the announcement of Sputnik V in August as the first Coronavirus vaccine to be approved for public use drew sharp criticism from other countries, including the United States and other Western countries. The criticism formed around Russia’s announcement of the approval for public use before its researchers completed the phase 3 trials, which makes for a crucial step or stage in the development of clinical vaccines for the virus CITATION Cha20 \l 1033 (Chance, 2020).
