Paper Assignment On Religion Buddhism (Research Paper Sample)

Instructions:

It is essentially a critical compare and contrast paper:
Pick two of the philosophical traditions that we've discussed (i.e. Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, or Sufism) and identify an issue over which those traditions disagree.
Explain both sides of the disagreement and then argue in favor of the perspective that you find most persuasive.
In order to do this well, you need to clearly present the arguments in favor of both views, show that you understand how people might object to them, and explain how your preferred view can respond to those objections.
The paper should be 3 to 5 pages long, double-spaced, with 1" margins on all sides, in an easily-readable 12-point font (Helvetica or Times New Roman preferred).
I do not require a particular way of handling citations as long as it is clear whenever you are citing someone and where that citation is from. You are not required to use any additional resources other than the material we discussed in class. In fact, it will be best if you just focus on in-class material and try to wrestle deeply with it.

Religion

Buddhism is one of the world’s major religions. It is a spiritual culture whose focus is on the development of one’s spiritual side and the achievement of deep insight into the reality of life. Currently, there are more than three hundred million practitioners of the Buddhist faith worldwide (BDEA, 2018). Buddhists seek to obtain a state known as nirvana. To reach this state, Buddhists align themselves with the path of the Buddha. Buddha, whose real name was Siddhartha Gautama devoted his life in the sixth century to attaining enlightenment. In the same way, believers worldwide, through various practices and following Buddhist teachings devote their lives to attaining the same state of enlightenment achieved by Siddhartha Gautama. Buddhists hold a particular belief regarding one’s soul or self, which is different from the beliefs taught in Hinduism. A more in-depth analysis will clarify these differences and the take that is best suited for one’s life.
