Hawaii consists of various groups, which have different Hawaiian local languages. Niihau is a cultural group found in the Niihau islands, and they speak the Hawaiian language. Niihau is a dialect of Hawaiian and English language. Besides, they also speak the English language, and therefore, the two languages are their official languages. The group is a member of the Polynesian group that originated from southeastern Asia 3,000 years ago. An approximate of 170 people can speak Niihau language worldwide. Niihau language has a significant dialect, as they preserve the traditions and cultures of Hawaiian ancestors (Hajibayova & Buente, 2017). They have different customs in the world today. For instance, they remove their shoes when they enter the house another person. Women who wear flower near the left ear means that they are no longer available.
The greeting way of Niihau is unique than any other greetings on the world. “Aloha” is a common word used for greeting, and it means more than hello, as it can mean peace, mercy as well as to be in the presence of divine power. They also have a third language called Pidgin, which is an addition to Niihau and English. More than 600,000 people can ultimately speak this language on its own.
