Barriers to 100% Renewable Energy and Possible Solutions
The United States (U.S) has made considerable steps towards the adoption of renewable energy. Several policies and strategies have putting place since 2008 beginning with the, “remaking America with green energy” policy. The aim is to conserve the environment with the use of low carbon energy. The U. S has been one of the leading consumers of non-renewable energy with petroleum (25%) and coal (22%). However, the use of variable forms of renewable energy such as wind, solar, ocean, biofuels, wave and geothermal energy would be more than sufficient to meet U.S ‘s energy demand. Despite the various forms of renewable energy available, the country is still struggling with the use of oil and coal as its main source of energy. Thus, this paper aims at identifying the barriers to the adoption of renewable forms of energy and the possible solutions to aid America to make a 100% shift to clean energy use.
Little progress has been made after the initiation of clean energy policies. Change is inevitable but the process of transformation may take longer due to the unwillingness of many to adjust to the low-carbon energy forms. Apart from its benefits, change also comes with additional expenses and needs. For instance, oil and coal are easily available in abundance at low costs. However, these sources of energy are prone to depletion. Nonetheless, the question arises as to the reason for reluctant transformation to purely renewable energy. In this regard, long-term policies for 100% move to renewable energy are necessary. Hence, the significance of the issue addressing the barriers in the way of changing to 100% clean energy and the viable solutions.

Policies and strategies to implement the use of renewable energy have put in place. Slow efforts have been made to attain a 100% shift to clean energy. Given the slow transition, there is need to identify the challenges hindering the use of renewable energy and identify possible solutions to aid in the 100% adoption of renewable energy in America.
Objectives
To facilitate the ultimate utilization of the renewable energy sources and minimize usage of depletable energy sources. To do this, there is need to figure out challenges associated with the new energy forms and address them.

Renewable energy comes with own technological requirements. This equipment takes up quite a fortune to set up making it an expensive venture for most investors with slow returns. It becomes difficult for renewable energy producers to compete with the mature non-renewable energy technologies. The initial high cost of infrastructure increases the cost of the new energy provision. This translates to high-end user cost. The consumers opt for the cheap, safe and available non-renewable energy sources such as coal and oil.
In supporting the Energy Strategic Plan 2014-2018, the federal government permitted the use of public land for over 10,000 megawatts of renewable land.
