Police Practices and Community Relations (Speech)
It is evidenced that community is unable to operate without the help of the police. For instance, as revealed by Palmiotto (2011), it is the responsible of the police to make sure that law and order exist within the society. This is achievable through identifying problems faced by the community and ensuring that proper solutions are got to solve the challenges faced. In order for the above function of the police to be effective, a good relationship must exist between the police and the community. Therefore, better and effective relationship between the police and the community can only be realized by both parties working together without considering certain factors such as ethnicity. However, by considering factors such as ethnicity, cultural practices and color among other, hinders the kind of services that police provide to the community as found by Cochran and Warren (2011). It is therefore; important for both the community and the police to operate as a single body to ensure that people live in crime free environment.
Consequently, in order for better service delivery by the police to the community to be achieved, it is a mandatory for the relationship between the community and the police to be harmonious because each party depends on the other for their services. For instance, as found by Palmiotto (2011) that any community depend on the police department services for their protection against certain acts such as corruption, killings, rape, sexual immorality, crime and conflicts among others. In order for the above criminal acts to be diminished within the community, the police must depend on information provided by the community.
