It is unfortunate that the drug lords happen to be the financiers of terror organizations in the region. It is however evident that the continued support of the American`s war on terror has resulted to a dangerous internal wrangles between the terrors gungs who also happens to be drug lords in the region. There is much division in the land as forces aligned to the U.S seeks to overpower the Taliban and drug lords who for a long time have maintained control on heroin cultivation. And with the militias and tribal factions support, Afghanistan`s opium crop continues to be the largest ever. Although both the local and international communities are against this drug spree in the region, an alternative source of income needs to be established. And although the problem is acknowledged as an Asian issue, Afghanistan still remains to be the leading drugs producer in the region. The huge junk of money obtained from drug trade, finance terrorist organizations such as the Al-Qaida. This paper will seek to analyze drug control in Central Asia. Being the world largest exporter of heroin, Afghanistan continues to fuel both regional and global insecurity. This is because there is a direct connection between the drugs baron, civil unrest and terrorist groups. Efforts to combat drug production in the region can be a major step towards restoring peace and stability in Afghanistan and the entire Central Asia region. To date only limited efforts have been made to resolve drug problems in the Asian region. For the last few years, only limited efforts such as eradicating poppy fields and interdicting the substance before they leave Central Asia has been made. But until now, the authorities have not succeeded to combat the same in Afghanistan. It continues to supply market to the region and across the globe (Film Media Group, 2002). Some increased efforts needs to be established as the scale of opium cultivation continues to increase considerably in the region. The local authorities should fight the plentiful and cheap supply of opiates in the region in order to discourage its cultivation.
