Disaster/ PTSD Name Institution Disaster/ PTSD Conroe Texas is among the fastest growing cities in America and many business and commercial developments have sprung up with an increased influx of inhabitants doubling the population in almost two decades. The population is expected rise from 180,000 in 2018 to 485,300 by the year 2050 following a recent survey. The cost of developing the new infrastructure includes installing pipelines, transportation improvements and expanding the wastewater treatment plant. The regional wastewater treatment plant’s capacity on average flow hits 75 percent or more of the allowed capacity, which demands engineering and financial planning to increase its capacity (ASCE, 2019). A master plan for the development of the plant created in 2011 provided for two approaches that would address future demand one of them being the rehabilitation of the Southwest Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant and the development of a new treatment plant. The new design is expected to employ an innovative A-B treatment process, a new concept in America that reduces lifecycle costs and increases energy savings unlike the conventional sludge facility. Wastewater in the A-B process is relayed from bar screens into an aeration basin within stage A, a stage that eliminates 60% of biochemical oxygen demand. The water then enters clarifiers then into stage B where processed water flows through to disc filters for polishing and ultraviolet disinfection which is then discharged into a creek that flows into a river (ASCE, 2019). Cost savings on energy will be huge using the A-B process. Operating costs will also reduce drasti...
