Adjusting to terrorism
Terrorism should be addressed using a response that is preventive focused, one that should encompass a solid justice system. First there is need for a justice agency to identify and adopt the best technology required to combat terrorism, this should be done by finding out if what is currently available is sufficient, and how it can be bolstered by the developing technology. The terrorist is always armed with the best armory, and many law enforcement agencies are usually at a disadvantage, since terrorism elements are always out to expand the scope of the regular police functions and expediting the newest technology available.
The justice agencies need to appreciate that there is need for entities to work together to effectively counter terrorism, with many emphases on improved information as well as communication technologies. Of great concern also is for the law enforcement agencies to improve their ability to deal with the weapons of mass destruction, more so those involving biological, nuclear or chemical hazards. There is an increase in cyber terrorism, which is of particular importance, it follows that justice agencies need to be in a position handle this intricate technological aspect of this new form of terrorism (Steven and Gunaratna, 2004)
The technological capabilities essential to combat terrorism also integral in gathering of intelligence, command and controls, site hardening and provision of security which involves reducing the vulnerability of buildings or sites to terror attacks, and the general protection of facilities and outdoor events from terrorism, detection, disabling and containing explosives, apprehension and disarming of terrorists, forensic and investigation, public information and crowd control.
