Research Paper Instructions:

For this assignment you are to conduct an interview on any event or time period in contemporary history. The purpose of this assignment is twofold:
• Give you experience conducting research from an original primary source.
• Give you the opportunity to learn from another person that lived through an important time or event in contemporary history.
You can choose anyone you want – a family member, friend, coworker, etc. – who lived through and experienced an important time or event in contemporary history. Some of these historical events could involve, but are not limited to, the Vietnam Era, the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, any of the world war conflicts, 9/11, the Great Depression, a war in the Middle East, or even having worked on a vital political campaign.
When you conduct the interview, use the following seven questions. You must also come up with eight additional questions that reflect your knowledge and understanding of contemporary history (making the total number of questions 15, minimum.)
1. What event or time in history did you experience?
2. How did you feel about the experience as it happened? Why?
3. How do you feel about the experience now? Why?
4. How did this experience change your life? Why?
5. What were the factors that led to the event?
6. Describe the political, cultural, social, economic, and historical contexts that were going on in the world at the time.
7. What key characters, trends, movements, events, and associated policies were going on in the world at the time?
After you have completed your interview, review all of the information that was shared with you and think about all of the factors (social, political, economic, etc.) that combined to make the event a significant one. Write a reflection that synthesizes what you have learned and shows an appreciation for the interconnectedness of influencing factors on world history. Support your opinion with examples.
