The History of Females Underwear
The female underwear was initially designed to serve several purposes; changing the shape of a woman, preserving her modest and for hygiene reasons CITATION Chr11 \l 1033 (Christiana, 2011). Women have worn corsets that were rib-crushing, also bandaged their chests to have an androgynous silhouette and burned their underwear as a way of being freed. It is because many initially did not like to use undergarments because they believed that they were explicitly meant for prostitutes and the low-class women. Just from the use of bloomers to thongs, from pointy brassieres to push up bras, the history of underwear reveals a lot about the changes in women fashion in the society. Despite the change in the design, the lingerie for over the time remained the same. The bra of 1900 has the same resemblances to that of the 1930s while the image, for instance, that of Isabel black in 1967 have been seen today (Amy-Chinn, Jantzen, & Ostergaard, 2006). The paper gives a summary of the evolution of females’ underwear highlighting the changes, how and when it came into use.
The Women Underwear
The utilization of female underwear originated from Crete in Greece where Minoan people wore it. It was used by both women and men during those moments. The use of undergarments (underwear) in this regard was classified into two classes. The first class was the chemise and the second one was the corset. The chemise was a wool garment that covered around midcalf with sleeves of varying lengths and widths. The neckline usually shifted to echo the fashion that was sometimes very wide and low. The chemise was traditionally meant to absorb the sweat and oils from the body to keep the outer garments clean. The corset, on the other hand, changed from time to time, style to style but always was meant to provide bust and back support while smoothening the figure. The women underwear has changed as time went by due to the aspect of creativity and innovations that resulted in the production of more complex underwear that are decent. According to the research by Elizabeth and Jan, the use of the female underwear in early times was optional. Today, the case is different since people realized the importance of using underwear; hence, their usage has become mandatory in contemporary society (Elizabeth & Jan 2002).
Renaissance corsets of 16 the century
The utilization of underwear was not typical in early centuries, but its idea came with chastity belts. The concept of the chastity belt was developed by men in early 1200s which was a bulky metal undergarment with a lock on it. Men came up with this idea as a way of preventing their women from sleeping with other men as they would lock them tightly before they leave. The belt also prevented women from going to the bathroom to take a bath. As time went by, women designed their underwear which was just a piece of cloth that assembled a diaper that developed underwear as a garment. In the early 1800s, the underwear was like pairs of pants that were given the name pantaloons that were not only utilized as underwear but also as a fashion statement (Brooke, 2000).
