Introduction
These days, the demand for greater specialization in the field of healthcare is constantly growing. While this suggests an improvement in the field when it comes to the technical knowledge and provision of healthcare, this also requires an addition of roles for the nurses and other healthcare practitioners alike. One of the greatest addition to the traditional role of nurses is their need to utilize Evidence-based practices. This allows them to work outside of the traditional methods of healthcare, and within a trans-disciplinary model that combines the best available research evidence, preferences of the population and their needs, as well as the resources of both the patient and the practitioner (Eboptometry.com, n.d.). Simply said, EBP allows a more personalized approach to healthcare as compared to other approaches as it deals with every condition based on the symptoms that present itself. However, despite its promises, EBP it still a fairly new framework. According to Eboptometry.com, it was only back in 2003 when “a statement on evidence-based practice was prepared by the delegates of the Evidence-based Health Care Teachers and Developers conference” and 2009, when a formal trans-disciplinary model was developed by Satterfield. In line with this, this article would be dedicated to the analysis of possible intervention for the improvement of Evidence-based practice. Specifically, the author believes that in order to further improve the framework, there is an explicit need for the improvement of EBR (Evidence-based research) since EBP is made possible by EBR. To provide a better discussion of the article, the succeeding sections would focus on one of America’s major healthcare issue – Type II diabetes. The author would then detail a program that would allow an efficient use of EBR. This includes plans for communication and implementation of proper stakeholders.
As compared to Type I Diabetes (which is genetic) Type II is usually caused by lifestyle problems such as obesity and abuse of products and substances, which makes it “largely preventable”. Nonetheless, despite our healthcare’s ability to mitigate the chances of developing the disease, what is surprising is that about 29.1 million Americans was diagnosed with the disease last 2017, and an estimated 8.1 million might still be undiagnosed (Diabetes.org, 2017). This suggests that there is a gap between our extensive efforts against the disease, which makes it one of the most interesting healthcare issue as per the author of this article.
A Proactive Approach
In order to increase our ability to reduce the numbers of Type II diabetes cases, it would be best if we could focus on a pro-active approach rather than a reactive one. In the traditional healthcare setting, practitioners are mostly trained to provide a cure for illnesses once the symptoms present themselves. By integrating EBR and EBP with the traditional roles of practitioners and combining their results with outside research efforts, extensive data could be generated.
Recording of Data
As stated, this would take a t...
