Evidence Based Alternative Medicines in Pain Management 2016

In 2016, Haroon Khan, Vincenzo De Feo, Najeeb Ur Rehman and Agnieszka Najda published this article in the Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine journal in which they argue that chronic pain, headache, back pain, osteoarthritis and other types of pain can easily be managed with alternative medicines. Researchers conducted a study to determine what type of alternative medicines would help manage pain and came up with the conclusion that not all alternative pain treatment options are good to go with. Some of them help relieve back pain, headache, and osteoarthritis, but they may not benefit the patient with diabetic nerve damage or chronic pain (Khan et al., 2016).

Acupuncture and marijuana have become the mainstream treatment for pain.
Statement of Purpose
The only concern of researchers of this non-experimental study is that how to decide whether marijuana is better than acupuncture or not. It should be noticed that acupuncture helps cure sports injuries, back pain, fibromyalgia, and osteoarthritis.

Is medical marijuana as effective to treat conditions like fibromyalgia, back pain, and osteoarthritis as acupuncture? Are they good for chronic pain too?
Study Methods
Haroon Khan, Vincenzo De Feo, Najeeb Ur Rehman and Agnieszka Najda conducted a number of surveys and got over 250 people involved. They aimed to study the effects of acupuncture, marijuana and/or alternative medicines on the patients.
Key Findings
It was proved that medical marijuana is not as effective as acupuncture and alternative medicines, meaning it should be used only when no other treatment option is available.

According to the researcher of this descriptive co-relational study, the Holmes-Rahe Stress Inventory, also known as the Social Readjustment Rating Scale, has been around since 1967. Richard Rahe and Thomas Holmes developed this scale with an aim to identify the possible causes of depression and stress. One of the major concerns of Peter is that whether the Holmes-Rahe Stress Inventory can help diagnose different stages of depression, stress, and anxiety or not. In recent months, more than 20,000 cases of stress and depression have been reported in different parts of the United States, and the number of victims is likely to double by 2020. Stress and anxiety not only impact the victim’s brain but also ruin his whole personality and lead him to gain excessive weight (Noone, 2017).
