In a 550 word paper, describe the problem or issue and propose a quality improvement initiative based on evidence-based practice. Apply "The Road to Evidence-Based Practice" process, illustrated in Chapter 4 of your textbook, to create your proposal.
Include the following:
Provide an overview of the problem and the setting in which the problem or issue occurs.
Explain why a quality improvement initiative is needed in this area and the expected outcome.
Discuss how the results of previous research demonstrate support for the quality improvement initiative and its projected outcomes. Include a minimum of three peer-reviewed sources published within the last 5 years, not included in the course materials or textbook, that establish evidence in support of the quality improvement proposed.
Discuss steps necessary to implement the quality improvement initiative. Provide evidence and rationale to support your answer.
Explain how the quality improvement initiative will be evaluated to determine whether there was improvement.
Support your explanation by identifying the variables, hypothesis test, and statistical test that you would need to prove that the quality improvement initiative succeeded.

Problem Statement
The main problem at the Hopkins Healthcare Facility, where I work, is that patients often complain of low, slow processing of their lab test results. In other words, it takes an unnecessarily long time from the time a doctor decides that they need a lab test to the time they get the results. As such, they have lost trust in the facility and employees are equally unmotivated because patients have a negative attitude towards them. For the hospital to maintain its integrity and restore the confidence of patients, it is crucial to investigate the issue, evaluate the contributing factors, and improve outcomes for patients. It is critical for the doctors, and nurses to analyze patients’ specimens and give them results promptly. When they have their lab tests on time, patients will stop complaining, and the healthcare facility will reduce backlog as well.
Results of a Previous Research
The problem could have been caused by the fact that the facility still uses manual and outdated data entry systems. Recording patients’ data manually often leads to issues such as delays, duplication of entries, among other logistical issues (Johnson & Sollecito, 2018). Even worse, after a doctor hands over the request for a lab test to a nurse, it is placed in a manual message box. The officer in charge then rummages the pile of notes, picks the request, and heads to the lab's department. Most of the lab requests are not labeled so that the lab attendant would not know their urgency. Lab test requests should be marked as Immediate, Urgent or Routine (Johnson & Sollecito, 2018).
