Among many billionaires charity and philanthropic acts are not only their way of giving back to the society but also a kind of expectation to many. People always expect something from them. Many rich people fund academic programs as well as sports activity. Such actions are perceived differently by different people. Te question remains if the works done by the rich bigwigs such as Bill Gates are charity works or show off (Barkan, 2011). Many might think that the “big” businessmen are after popularity or promoting their products. However, the fact is that such initiatives are of much help especially to the public health sector in ensuring the welfare of the people.
Recently, Microsoft’s former CEO made a remarkable donations to global health programmes. The same charitable action was associated by side effects as communicated by Andrew Bowman (Barkan, 2011). This is a clear indication that the funding of various crucial social amenities services also receives critics by many. When Bill Gates visited Africa in the year 1993 he was upset by the conditions of social amenities, most specifically the health sector. It is therefore unarguable that the being rich does not hinder someone to give the help he is willing to offer (Barkan, 2011). Any donations or sponsorship of health sector is synonymous to the other type of funding the public figures people are offering.
