Professional Development and Curriculum Vitae
A nursing graduate course is an academic milestone that requires an individual to be well-prepared so that one can achieve the established goals. As such, a person must identify the program that aligns with her professional objectives. A professional development plan is critical to graduates since it acts like a map that guides them on what to do so that they can meet their career objectives successfully. The primary aim in this paper is to offer my professional and educational backgrounds that are associated with my practicum, which I will be doing at Lawnwood Medical Center for my Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP).
Professional and Education Background
My journey to becoming a nurse has not been successful without overcoming various challenges. Being a parent who has to multitask to meet the needs of my family and my academic goals, I have to sacrifice many things. However, I am glad to have the opportunity to study nursing so that I can improve people’s lives.
For sure, nursing has been a rewarding career for me since it is not only a job, but it is my call. After graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Kent State University in 1993, I knew that everything is possible if one is devoted entirely. Studying and working has not been easy since it affected my GPA adversely, but I am happy since that experience has enabled me to grow personally and professionally.
Indeed, working in a department of endoscopy has enabled me to develop a standard guideline for an operating procedure that is used in the hospital. I have numerous certifications, such as advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), basic life support (BLS), electrocardiogram interpretation, and pediatric advanced life support (PALS). In the course of this year, I am planning to obtain another certification for the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA).
I have learned to be open-minded and diverse, which has enabled me to be efficient and flexible as a nurse (Awasthi, 2019). My primary areas of expertise are endoscopy, telemetry, neurology, recovery, home health, urology, orthopedics, research-based projects, and day surgery. I have taken leadership roles in different areas, namely educator, charge nurse, computer specialist, team leader, admission and discharge nurse, and preceptor. As such, being involved in the above roles made it clear to me that I need to advance my study in nursing leadership and administration.
Professional Objectives
One of my primary personal goals is to improve the lives of many people as possible. I feel satisfied when I assist others in overcoming their challenges, which was my drive in choosing a career in nursing. My professional objective is to pursue a Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN). My major will be in leadership and administration. I have always aspired to influence nurses in improving patient care.
