Nursing theory. Nightingale's Environmental Theory

Research Paper Instructions:

Here are a few tips on this paper:

The focus of this paper is about a nursing theorist and his/her theory, why you selected this theory and how you use it in your practice

Common theorists include: Orem, Peplau, Watson, Imogene King, Roy, Leininger, Dorothy Johnson, Ida Orlando, Martha Rogers, Virginia Henderson, Betty Neuman, Margaret Newman, and many others.  There are some grand theorists and other theorists.  A brief listing is at: http://www(dot)nurses(dot)info/nursing_theory_accepted_theories.htm and http://www(dot)sandiego(dot)edu/nursing/research/nursing_theory_research.php/

I suggest googling "nursing theorist in your area of nursing" and seeing ones pop up your area of nursing because these theories may be more applicable/interesting for you.

This paper has a high likelihood of plagiarism thus why I cannot stress enough to minimize use of any directly quoted material and "if you do quote something, enclose it in quotation marks with a proper citation something like this" (Savage, 2012, p. 1).  Do not quote every component of the theorist's theory-summarize or loosely paraphrase.

You should have at least 2 references on your reference page (the last page of paper) and they should be in APA format.  Again, help for formatting references on your reference page or in-text citations can be found at: http://owl(dot)english(dot)purdue(dot)edu/owl/resource/560/05/   There is also a sample paper on Purdue's OWL and on GSU's GROWL (GSU's Writing Center).

Nursing Theory
Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) was a British nurse. She was instrumental in the formulation of theories for modern nursing. During the Crimean War, Nightingale cared for the soldiers. Here, Nightingale spent hours in the wards attending to the soldiers. She made rounds during the night to attend to her patients, which earned her the name “Lady with a Lamp.” Nightingale was passionate about formalizing nursing education. She eventually established a school in 1860 to facilitate scientific approach to nursing
Nightingale is considered as an influential nursing theorist. The Environmental Theory is one of her theories that has been widely used in the nursing practice. Using the theory, Nightingale defined nursing as utilizing the environment of clients to help them in the recovery process (Medeiros, 2015). The theory calls upon nurses to organize the environmental settings to facilitate gradual recovery of patients. Nurses are expected to consider the external factors that are associated with patients’ surroundings and how their impact on the restoration of health. Nightingale identified five major environmental factors she believed have implications on patients’ health, which include “fresh air, pure water, effective drainage, cleanliness, and light” (AliSher, Atta, Yasin & Sohail, 2019). The deficiency of one of these factors could have adverse effects on the recovery of patients.
I selected this theory because of its contribution to the holistic care of patients. Nurses should provide patients with the conditions necessary for improving their health (Davoodvand, Abbaszadeh & Ahmadi, 2016). Nightingale viewed the environment as a changeable thing, which could be adjusted according to the person’s needs. The theory is relevant today ...
