Health Information Exchange Analysis Name Institutional Affiliation  Health Information Exchange Analysis Health information exchange (henceforth HIE) is an electronic method of moving and sharing health data and information among health care institutions and systems while at the same time maintaining its accuracy, timing, and meaning (Sanders, 2018). The primary goal of using HIE is to make data and information about the patient readily available for retrieval, hence aiding in minimizing duplication of data, while at the same time reducing the cost of health care services and enhancing the quality of care to the patient. In the United States, HIE systems are either supported by federal and state government or by independent institutions. The state of Maryland is among the states with successful HIE systems that enhance coordination of care to patients, successful implementation of public health care initiatives, and operation of evidence-based research. Unlike in other states where the state agencies directly run HIE, the state of Maryland has created Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP) that manages and operates HIE system. This paper compares the status of HIE in Maryland with the state of FHIE in Florida, HealthCurrent in Arizona, OneHealthPort in Washington. Maryland’s CRISP vs. Washington’s OneHealthPort Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP) is the central HIE organization that facilitates integrated access to patient's information at the point of care. The system is funded by the state government and is mainly used by doctors, nurses, and staff with validated security login details.  According to CRISP quarterly report 2018, the organization has facilitated integrated access to information regarding the welfare of patients by nurses, doctors, and other agencies that may require authorized access to patient data. Currently, CRISP's usage stands at eighty percent of the state population, and it has been expanded to include the use of research institutions and healthcare facilities. CRISP systems allow users to query data about patient information or any other information that the user intends to access, facilitating quick access to information regardless of the geographical location within the state of Maryland. According to CRISP report for the calendar year 2017/2018, a total of 1,798 organizations had accessed and used the CRISP portal as of the third quarter of 2018. The number of users had risen from 76, 285 to 87,967 in the third quarter of 2018 (CRISP, 2018). CRISP has also collaborated with the research and learning institutions such as John Hopkins Hospital to enhance usage and access to information on evidence-based research. Compared CRISP, OneHealthPort in the State of Washington has also enhanced easy access to patients’ data by registered health care providers and research institutions. However, unlike CRISP which works as a regional organization that facilitates state-wide services, OneHealthPort in Washington and the Health Care Authority work jointly to help participants’ access information about the health status of patients. Another difference is in collaboration with health research institutions....
