1 Foods to include in the diet plan for a patient with hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid glands of a person never produce enough thyroid hormones (Sharma, Bharti & Kumar, 2014). The thyroid hormones are responsible for metabolism, repair, and growth. A person with the condition normally looks tired, finds it difficult to tolerate cold, and gains weight. A person with hypothyroidism should eat each fruit, vegetables, and foods rich in fiber (Sharma, Bharti & Kumar, 2014). Therefore, a nurse would include bananas, spinach, and sweet potatoes in the diet plan of a person with hypothyroidism.
2 Summary of Research on Nutrition
I have come to the following conclusion after researching nutrition
* There is never one perfect diet that would be good for everyone.
* Eating vegetables is good for improving health.
* Proteins are normally not the best sources of energy.
* Drinking plenty of water is important.
* Added sugar is not good for health
The reason for TPN
Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) is needed for patients that should not or cannot consume fluids and other foods through the mouth (Oshima & Pichard, 2015). Therefore, TPN method helps to give fluids to the veins so that the body of a patient can get the nutrients that they need.
Information that is needed to calculate the nutritional requirements for TPN patients includes that water requirement, energy expenditure, degree catabolism, essential fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins (Oshima & Pichard, 2015). Solutions chosen depend on the age patients and the status of the functioning of their organs. The height, weight, and propofol information are also needed.
Summary of the types of diets
* Full liquid diet- A full liquid diet is made of liquid foods and foods that normally turn to the liquid whenever they are at room temperature such as ice cream. A person that is on a full liquid diet cannot eat solid foods.
* Pureed diet- pureed diet means all the foods that have been smashed, pressed, or ground to make them...
