The rationale for Methods Used In Collecting Outcome Data
The methods for collecting the outcome data will utilize quantitative and qualitative methods (a mixed-method approach). The tools that will facilitate the collection of outcome data include survey questionnaires and interviews. By using the mixed methods approach, there will be a comprehensive integration and interpretation of both quantitative data (collected using questionnaires) and qualitative data (collected using interviews) (Staveteig et al., 2017). The nature of the EBP project which focuses on the practitioner and patient experience, quality, and cost of care permits the use of mixed methods approach to learn more about best practices. For example, the responses of both the surgical specialists and patients will be integrated at the levels of collection, interpretation, and discussion to reveal multiple perspectives on a specific issue of concern (Timans, Wouters, & Heilbron, 2019). The key issues of focus will be the changes in staff attitudes as they provide care in the categories of safety, comfort, readiness, and safety culture. For the patients, the quantitative and qualitative data will highlight readmission rates, hospital stay, and health complications related to surgical smoke exposure.
Ways in Which Outcome Measures Evaluate the Extent to which Project Objectives Are Achieved
The project aims to create a surgical environment where surgical specialists and patients are at reduced risk of exposure to surgical smoke. Therefore, the objectives are to reduce cases of asthma attacks, skin irritations, ocular irritations, bad odor, and respiratory complications from prolonged exposure to surgical smoke. By categorizing the outcome measures in terms of OR job satisfaction, perceptions of safety, comfort, and readiness to provide care, the project will demonstrate to what extent the highlighted objectives are being achieved. Similarly, the outcome measures among patients (readmission rates attributed to surgical smoke effects, hospital stay, and rates of eye and skin irritations) will demonstrate the degree of achievement of the project objectives.
How the Outcomes Will Be Measured and Evaluated Based On Evidence
The outcomes as categorized in OR job satisfaction, perceptions of safety, comfort, and readiness to provide care as well as readmission rates attributed to sur...
