Consider the actual project site’s patient outcome clinical concern that you and the site are considering as your intended Direct Practice Improvement (DPI) project. Conduct a search in the GCU Library using CINAHL, The Cochrane Library, the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI), OVID, Turning Research into Practice (TRIP) Database, or Sage Research Methods databases to find appropriate empirical (seminal/original) resources regarding applicable nursing interventions founded in research.

Utilizing your feedback, you have received on your draft PICOT question from Topic 2 DQ1, create a draft PICOT question specifically related to your project. This PICOT will be revised and in Topic 8 will be submitted for review by the college.
Use the “PICOT Decision Pathway,” located in the DC Network, to determine if your PICOT question is appropriate and can be supported with substantial research.
Using the “PICOT Question Template,” located in the DC Network, formulate an EBP PICOT question that pertains to your project focus.
In addition to your evidence-based practice PICOT question, prepare a brief summary of your topic. Include a rationale for why you have selected this topic and why you believe it is in line with the PICOT selection guidelines. This paper aims at discussing constituents of the PICOT question regarding the implementation of negative pressure in patients with chronic diabetic foot ulcers. To effectively answer the PICOT question, the paper has been divided into various subsections. The patient population describes the patients of interest in the research while the intervention discusses the utilized treatment plan. In the comparison section of the PICOT question lies a discussion of how the utilized intervention will be compared for reasons of demonstrating effectiveness. Picot Question
In patients with chronic diabetic foot ulcers, does the implementation of negative pressure (Wound Vac) promote rapid healing on diabetic patients compared to the traditional moisturize gauze dressing and topical agents?
Population
The population of the study will be patient with diabetes type 2 diabetes and diabetic foot ulcers. These patients will be assigned to only the standard therapy or a combination of NPWT for about seven days. NPWT assignment will be non-random and dependent on the wound characteristics. The patients inclusion criteria include the occurrence of four or more neuropathic clinically no infected foot wounds and type 2 diabetes clinical diagnosis. The exclusion standards for the population comprise clinically noteworthy ischemia delineated by absence of pulses of an ankle or the two major pedal arteries, bilateral ulcerations, infection symptoms, active Charcot foot and active osteomyelitis. For patients in the NPWT group, the average will be 66.2 years while for the control group will be 64.7 years.
Intervention
The intervention will comprise NPWT and traditional moist gauze dressings. Before the application of moist gauze dressing or NPWT, the diabetic foot ulcers will be surgically debrided of non-feasible tissue. The control group comprise of patients who will be taking the traditional moist gauze dressings which will be utilized and changed two times in one day. Once debridement has taken place, the wound’s surface area will be measured by use of a non-reusable pen and pasteurized millimetric paper. The paper will be censored to fit the wound and as such, the template will be valuable in measuring the wounds’ surface area and cutting the NPWT wound covering for reasons of enabling optimum injury coverage.
When it comes to the NPWT group, polyurethane ether dressing will be used to cover the wound and a tube will be put beneath the bandage. In creating a hermetic seal, a clean, nonsterile, adhesive drape will be used in covering the tube and dressing. Afterwards, the tube will be connected to an aspirator pump for purposes of creating negative pressure. -125 mmHg constant negative pressure will be used for this grouping. Just like in other studies, the NPWT dressing and tube will be changed after forty-eight hours.
