Developing an Evaluation Plan and Disseminating Results

Research Paper Instructions:

Using 800-1,000 words, discuss methods to evaluate the effectiveness of your proposed solution and variables to be assessed when evaluating project outcomes.
Example: If you are proposing a new staffing matrix that is intended to reduce nurse turnover, improve nursing staff satisfaction, and positively impact overall delivery of care, you may decide the following methods and variables are necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of your proposed solution:
Methods:
1. Survey of staff attitudes and contributors to job satisfaction and dissatisfaction before and after initiating change.
2. Obtain turnover rates before and after initiating change.
3. Compare patient discharge surveys before change and after initiation of change.
Variables:
1. Staff attitudes and perceptions.
2. Patient attitudes and perceptions.
3. Rate of nursing staff turnover.
Develop the tools necessary to educate project participants and to evaluate project outcomes (surveys, questionnaires, teaching materials, PowerPoint slides, etc.). *USE SURVEY/QUESTIONAIRES AS TOOLS*

Evaluation Plan
Methods for evaluating effectiveness of the proposed change
In this project, the proposed solution is essentially to use surgical intervention to treat obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSA). Surgical interventions would be performed in the early phase of OSA syndrome so as to reduce/prevent occurrences of complications that are linked to OSA and ultimately improve the quality of life of the patients. As such, one method that would be used in evaluating the effectiveness of the proposed change would entail assessing the number of occurrences of complications linked to OSA before implementation of the proposed solution and after its implementation. These complications include daytime sleepiness, reduced libido, pulmonary and systemic hypertension, morning headaches, as well as altered behaviour and mood for instance memory and cognitive impairment, lethargy and depression (Gutierrez & Brady, 2013). The new intervention would be considered as effective and successful if the incidences of these complications reduce by a significant extent after the OSA patient has undergone surgical operation to treat OSA syndrome. On the other hand, if the occurrences of these complications are still as much as they used to before the implementation of the proposed solution, then this intervention would be viewed as being ineffective. This is because the intervention would not have served its intended purpose.
Secondly, the effectiveness of the proposed solution would be evaluated by comparing this new intervention to OSA patients who were treated using other interventions for instance the standard technique, which the use of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. The reduction of the symptoms of OSA syndrome would then be compared in patients in the two groups – the CPAP therapy group and the intervention group. The proposed solution would be seen as effective if it is more successful in reducing symptoms of OSA than the standard treatment therapy, CPAP.
Thirdly, the effectiveness of the proposed solution would be evaluated by looking at the quality of life of the OSA patient prior to the execution of the proposed change and then comparing it to the patient’s quality of life after the proposed change is implemented. It is worth mentioning the surgical intervention is intended to treat OSA in patients, reduce or prevent complications linked to OSA and thereby improve their quality of life. Therefore, the proposed solution would also be considered to have been effective if the patients have an improved quality of life following their surgical operation to treat OSA syndrome. Otherwise, this proposed solution would not be regarded as effective (Browaldh et al., 2011).
Variables to assess when evaluating outcomes of the project
Attitudes and perceptions of patients with OSA syndrome: the attitudes as well as perceptions of patients with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome towards the new intervention will be utilized to evaluate the outcomes of this project. The project and the proposed intervention would most likely be successful if the affected patients have a positive attitude towards ...
