Case Report: Health Care Informatics

Research Paper Instructions:

In this assignment, learners are required to write a case report addressing the personal knowledge and skills gained in the current course and potentially solving an identified practice problem.
General Guidelines:
Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the assignment:
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments. The APA Style Guide is located in the Student Success Center.
Use primary sources published within the last 5 years. Provide citations and references for all sources used.
Your case report should be no more than 10 double-spaced pages, including references.
You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. A link to the LopesWrite technical support articles is located in Course Materials if you need assistance.
Learners will submit this assignment using the assignment dropbox in the LMS. In addition, learners must upload this deliverable to the Learner Dissertation Page (LDP) in the DNP PI Workspace for later use.
Directions:
Choose a specific focus of patient practice (e.g., acute care hospital, clinic, primary care, long-term care, home health). Select a particular disease process (congestive heart failure, fall, diabetes, etc.). Identify and fully describe a technology element that could be involved in providing care to a patient with your selected disease process and the patient practice. Define how this technology will integrate treatment, monitoring or communication from the identified care setting to the home and then to ongoing care through the clinic.
Your case report must include the following:
Introduction with a problem statement and your disease process described from the focus of patient practice.
Synthesized literature review.
Description of the case/situation/conditions. Use a real life patient situation or condition to describe your case, including the problems the patient encounters and the barriers to care.
Describe at least one technology that may be used as a solution to the patient situation or condition described in your case.
Describe how the technology can be used specifically in the case you have proposed.
Summary of the case integrating proposed solutions(s).
Keep in mind and integrate a Christian worldview when summarizing proposed solutions.
Conclusion.

Introduction
Diabetes (Diabetes mellitus) is a disease that affects metabolic system causing levels of sugar to rise (Watson, 2020). Typically, insulin is used as a transportation channel whereby it moves sugars to body cells, the stored sugar is used as energy. However, in the case of diabetes the body is unable to make enough insulin or probably unable to consume it effectively. It is a fatal disease if it is not identified in early stage. Additionally, there are two types of diabetes, type 1 which attacks the source of insulin (pancreas) and type 2 which occurs due to body resisting insulin. Under acute health care, there are two more aspects of diabetes that is presented frequently, firstly, the prediabetes scenarios where the patient is not yet in type 2 diabetes (CDC, 2020). Secondly, gestational which is associated with pregnancy. Chronic diseases are fatal and sometimes they happen in episodes thus, having high-end tech equipment help save lives and enable early diagnosis.
Literature Review
Every organ in the body has unique purpose and if compromised it can cause massive damage to the function ability of other organs. For example, insulin is released by pancreas and it work is to use the body used the stored glucose. In the two types of diabetes there are two scenarios as discussed earlier, low or no production of insulin or body resistance. In this paper will focus on gestational diabetes which is associated with pregnancies. According to CDC, (2020) (Center for Disease Control and prevention), gestational diabetes occurs between 2 and 10 percent on pregnant people.
Description of the Condition
Gestational diabetes is associated with pregnancy and it does not mean a patient had any type of diabetes. However, as far as it does not mean you had or you will have diabetes after child birth there are higher chances that it can trigger type 2 diabetes. A 28 patient was brought in the acute hospital due to severe fatigue and excessive thirst (both are symptoms of gestational diabetes). The emergency response team to the patient for checkup and diagnosis, however, due to lack of high-end technology the patient collapsed and she needed to be in OR (Operating Room) (Macon, 2018).
Technology and Its Use
The patient required several things to identify the cause of fatigue. CPOE (computerized physician order entry) it is a technology that is based on hyperglycemia (increased levels of glucose in the body). The integration of the CPOE technology to a gestational diabetes patients and other types of diabetes is effective for various reasons. For example, since it is based on hyperglycemia it provides management protocol to the levels of sugars to the patient. CPOE has extensive benefits to acute hospitals, firstly, it is electronic and u...
