III. Overview: A brief introduction to the chapter (APA 2.05 section). Briefly introduce the problem and summarize the significance.
a. Purpose Statement: Clear and concise explanation of the purpose of your clinical scholarly
project. Remember that your purpose should use empirical language and address measurable
outcomes. Your research question(s) should be clearly and empirically stated (APA 2.05 section).
IV. Data
a. Population: This should describe the population addressed in your research question 
(APA 2.06 section).
b. Sample: Describe the subset (sample) of the population of interest, the sample size, and 
the extent to which results can be generalized (APA 2.06 section). Also include subject recruitment if appropriate. A mock APA table of descriptive statistics must be included and referenced in the narrative (APA 5.10 section).
c. Instrumentation: Describe the process or rationale used to select or design the data

II. Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) can result in severe complications, and affects African American disproportionately. Inadequate access to health further complicates the matter, yet self-management practices can reduce the risk of complications developing. The use of technology tools to improve adherence has been explored previously and smartphone applications are integrated in interventions to enhance diabetes self-management, medication adherence and monitoring for complications. A quasi-experimental research methodology is used to evaluate the difference between an experiment group of elderly patients with diabetes receiving education and smart phone medication versus those who do not. The primary outcome is lower A1C levels during and after intervention after three months. Education with smartphone medication reminders is one way to improve adherence to manage diabetes. The project focuses on the effect of using of smartphone reminders among African Americans between the ages of 65 and 74 who have been diagnosed with diabetes. The project highlighted that smartphone reminders are effective to improve medication adherence and A1C levels. It is assumed that the the subjects in the intervention group are able to use the smartphone phones, but this also limits randomization since those identified ought to understand how the reminders are integrated in the intervention.
