Schools have contributed to a lot of change in the modern world. Producing the greatest minds, the world has never seen which has greatly revolutionized the world that we live in. however school experiences are different and vary from one person to another. Schools that someone attended has for a long time be used as pride and honor to the person if the experience they had was good and conducive. On the other hand, schools are also source of life sores that linger a lifetime of a person if the experience was bad. Bad experiences that students go through in schools is much constituted by school violence in form of mental torture, bullying and physical harm.
With the escalating number of cases of school violence each day, policies have been put in place to formulate and implement ways of preventing and curing school violence. Hot debate has also emerged on the various policies that are implemented to curb school violence among students and violence from outside. Violence is school have claimed the education and even social life of many young people who have been a victim. Bullying in school is one of the major causes of concern that has been shown to have great effects on social life during and after school. Anti-education critiques suggest that there is no need to get educated in the formal settings as it only brings more harm than good (Pepler, Craig, Ziegler, and Charach, 1994). Vast very bad things are recorded each day in schools where most of the victims are intensively affected. The social responsibility of education is a topic that has raised heated discussion with influential individuals sharply contrasting on the matter.
Despite great efforts to curb and annihilate violence in schools by the government, school administration and other stakeholders in the education sector, cases of violence in schools have continued to escalate to lethal levels (Shor, 2012). Research studies in the past decade have shown that on average three out of five students in the United States alone are a victim of school violence. The studies further show that 61% of those students who are in one way or another find themselves in school violence end up having an entangled social life later after school (Seidman, 2013). The violence that is common in schools includes being physically harassed by either by other fellow students and staff like the teachers. Severe corporal and dangerous punishments that may put the lives and health of the students also are included in the physical violence taking place in schools (Tomlinson, 2012). The psychological form of violence involves the students being verbal, sexually or even emotionally abused. Physical and emotional bullying in schools especially high school is a common trend in many schools and which adversely affect the victims (Hunkins, & Ornstein, 2016). The most contested issue about school violence is whether the violence that the students undergo in school is the sole contributor to the social moral erosion and decay being witnessed in the world.
