Globally, obesity has emerged as an issue of concern. Its prevalence has increased among people of all ages. In the U.S, Obesity is a growing public health risk owing to its significant impact to the burden of life style related chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypertension and certain types of cancers among others (CDC, 2014). Besides, it is associated with various emotional health concerns that retard the quality of life for those who suffer it.
In the last 20 years, the incidence and prevalence of obesity among young adults of age 15-21 years have substantially increased not only in the U.S, but also all over the world. In the U.S, overweight and obese prevalence have increased among the boys from approximately 12 % to 21% and among the girls, from 10.5% to 19.5 % (CDC, 2014). This trend demonstrates the worldwide phenomenon, with countries in Europe, Asia, and the Icelandic populations currently witnessing a third of the population becoming overweight or obese.
