Facial recognition software is one of the main innovations that have proved to be a productive resource for fighting crime since its adoption in 2011. One element of policing is concerned with policing, where law enforcement officers are urged to ensure that they do not invade people's privacy when they use modern technology as a crime-fighting resource (O'Neill, 2019). Crime is defined as an action that goes against laws and legal statutes that have been implemented by the legislature. Therefore, modern technologies are increasingly being used for preventing crime. This paper examines the significance of facial recognition software in curbing crime. An important policing issue that has been raised by the public concerning the face recognition software is how the police department uses the new system and the safeguards that have been implemented to prevent intrusion into people's privacy (Schuppe, 2019). In the New York Police Department, detectives who are investigating a crime obtain the video and forward it to the Facial Identification Section. To ensure that the public is protected from privacy intrusion, a database of prior arrest photos is initially used as the sole search platform of potential suspects. The software generates possible matches, and an investigator assesses resemblance of the suspect to determine them (Davies, Dawson & Innes, 2018). When the matched is affirmed, other open-source images from sites such as social networking sites are used for further research. Such strategies reduce the problems of privacy intrusion.
