With a history of gatekeeping knowledge and the industry, throughout the pandemic, has social media (such as Reddit and YouTube, etc.) provided McMaster students an opportunity to learn about investing?
The research investigates a narrow geographic scope, specifically with the McMaster University students as the population. It highly contributes to how manageable and realistic the research will be. Moreover, the components of the research question namely the COVID-19 pandemic, social media applications, and gatekeeping knowledge about investing are relevant issues that provide more opportunities for practical and realistic application in the industry.
The significance of the research question is further emphasized by the analysis that it may provide whether social media may influence the learning opportunities and experiences of students on investing. Furthermore, it will also provide information regarding the changes that have occurred through the years of research in terms of gatekeeping knowledge about the stock market and investing in general. This research question is highly relevant nowadays because of the COVID-19 pandemic that is currently being experienced all over the globe. In addition to this, the relevance of this research question increases by the involvement of social media applications, such as Reddit and YouTube, which are commonly used by the younger generation caused by the technological advancements in the digital world.
