ASSIGNMENT
Whether or not it's on a social media site, a news outlet, or any other form of a public or semi-public mediated platform, we have a digital fingerprint. In addition, disinhibition and the concepts of cyberbullying have become national conversations and in some cases, lead to social and policy changes in various areas.
Part I: Choose a social media platform in which you are most active. Review your comments, posts, likes, DMs, and other interactions that you've had on the site and quantify or categorize your usage. over the prior 60 days. Create an infographic, that highlights important facts, statistics, and information about your social media usage on that platform. (For more information on how to create an infographic and samples of an infographic, visit Resource Page: Building Infographics). You will use the information that you put in your infographic to help support your arguments in Part II.
Part II: After creating your infographic using the social media platform of your choice, write a well written, APA formatted, argumentative essay that answers the following question: Are you a cyberbully? This question should be answered in your thesis statement. In addition to supporting your thesis statement, the argumentative paper must address or incorporate the following:
Explain and address the concept of cyberbullying
Theory of disinhibition
Theory of perceived and/or presenting self
These elements can be included anywhere within the essay based on how they best fit your arguments. The essay should be well written, using APA formatting and argumentative essay structures. (For more information on how to write an argumentative essay and samples of an argumentative essay, visit Resource Page: Writing Argumentative Essays).
In addition, the argumentative essay should include two additional research sources. Both sources should be reputable and credible, but one has to be scholarly. These additional sources cannot be used to simply define a concept. Most of the concepts that you need to define are in the textbook, which you should still cite. The research should be used to find other ways to support your arguments and ideas.
Submission Instructions:
APA formatted (title page, headers, in-text citations, and reference page)
Include 2-3 content pages (double space)
Infographic displaying an illustration of your social media platform and usage should be inserted into the paper as an image for an APA figure (For more information on APA formatting, samples, and inserting it as a figure, visit Resource Page: APA Formatting and Citations)
The assignment should be submitted as one document in a Word doc or PDF.

Effects of Cyber Bullying from Social Media Platform Utilization
Harassment, humiliation, embarrassment, or any form of threats through text messages, emails or photos over digital media platforms is regarded to as cyberbullying. A person who posts malicious content about another individual online, creating a forum for the victim to be ridiculed and mocked is a cyberbully (Kowalski, Giumetti, Schroeder & Lattanner, 2014). Media platforms are technological systems that allow people to create an online presence and communicate within a community. However, when the communication involves sharing private and personal information about someone else causing humiliation, then it crosses the line into criminal mannerism (Diaz, 2016). Cyberbullying goes against my personal values and respect that we should accord other individuals on social media platforms; thus, I strongly stand against the vice.
Cyberbullying has special characteristics such as the persistence in the use of social media platforms. People continually communicate 24 hours a day, making all users, including children and vulnerable to cyberbullying (Hamm et al., 2015). Another unique concern is that content shared with the public in digital forums is permanent. A public record is an online reputation, which may be accessed by schools, colleges, clubs, and employees in the future. Cyberbullying can severely harm any online reputation and in turn, can have a negative impact on future admissions and other areas of life. (Pearson, Andersson, & Porath, 2005). Due to its difficulty to distinguish compared to other forms of bullying, cyberbullying presents more adverse effects on the victims. Victims are unable to control the opinions of bullies and have no power to stop the harassment. Also, there can be more permanent damage with cyber harassment in comparison to face to face bullying (Pearson et al., 2005).
Since teenagers are the most affected by this type of bullying, when it happens, they tend to socially inhibit themselves. Social inhibition is the conscious or subconscious avoidance of social interaction (Hinduja & Patchin, 2015). In most cases, when a teenager experiences cyber harassment, they are more likely to avoid any form of interactions with other people for fear of people disapproving and even mocking their ideas. They stray from their normal way and create a social distance between themselves and the people close to them, such as family and friends. Eventually, this results in a serious emotional problem that could ...
