Part A) Choosing A Media Piece
Choose a narrative media piece in which you can clearly identify the different types of Character Archetypes (Campbell's and PMAI) at work. You can choose a movie, game, novel, comic, etc.
Avoid using an entire game/film/TV series as an example, however. A series analysis is beyond the scope of this 500 word analysis. Those interested in analyzing part of a series should focus on one installment (e.g. a film, comic, novel, or game), one season or one episode (TV).
Additionally, character roles shift over time. For example, Loki's role changes dramatically over the course of the Marvel movies. Severus Snape is perceived to be a villain at the beginning of the Harry Potter series, and is deemed a friend at the end.
Be sure to check and review the discussion board prior to researching and posting to avoid choosing a media example that has already been selected. Do not duplicate a topic others have already posted.
Additionally, you will want to ensure your media piece is not on the Banned List under the "Overview" section. In this section, please include the following:
Name of the media piece and release date.
An official promotional image (e.g. poster, box art, dust jacket cover, etc.)
Use APA formatted citations: make sure to cite your image and all other resources
Part B) Campbell's Archetypes
Refer to "Lesson 2.3: Campbell's Character Archetypes" to help you identify the characters.
In list form, identify and explain how your media example demonstrates archetypal appeal through the application of five of Campbell's six Character Archetypes.
For this section please include:
Five of the six characters that embody Campbell’s Character Archetypes identified in bold
An explanation of how the archetype of each character is displayed within the media piece
Only the discussion of the plot within the context of discussing the characters; do not provide a plot summary
One archetype per character; do not assign multiple archetypes to one character (contact your instructor if you believe this is going to be an issue)
Must include the Hero and the Shadow; you may discuss any three of the remaining four Character Archetypes
Part C) PMAI Archetypes
Refer to "Lesson 2.6: Understanding the PMAI" and the manual you were sent after taking your PMAI Assessment to help you discuss the archetypes in two of the characters you discussed in the section above.
For this section please include:
Two unique characters exhibiting their highest PMAI archetypes
An explanation of how the archetype is displayed in the actions taken by the character you are discussing

The Invisible man is a novel that was written by Ralph Ellison in 1952. Random House published the book. The novel conveys information about African Americans' intellectual and social issues in the United States in the 20th century. It also addresses the issue of Black Nationalism and the relationship between Marxism and Black identity. Below is an official promotion image of the novel, Invisible Man, according to Mahoney (2015).
Part B
Invisible Man, the novel demonstrates archetypal appeal by applying Joseph Campbell's character archetypes: the protagonist, antagonist, sidekick, mentor, and love interest, as noted by Fernandez (2018). The protagonist is the main actor in the story and is greatly affected by the antagonist. The protagonist carries the theme of the plot. The antagonist is the direct opposite of the protagonist. The protagonist is the protagonist's obstacle towards achieving the primary goal. The sidekick helps the protagonist to accomplish the main goal of the plot. He is loyal to the protagonist, though they may differ in various ways.
The mentor teaches the protagonist to gain specific knowledge and skills that help him to achieve the goal. He also protects the protagonist in his pursuit of achieving the goal. He also guides the protagonist in the right way. Finally, the love interest is the person with whom the protagonist falls in love and falls in love back. The love interest can support or resist the protagonist.
In the Invisible Man, the protagonist is the narrator, who is also referred to as the 'Invisible Man' of the title. The narrator enables the reader to note various issues and activities happening in the society. The narrator enables the development of the story to reveal certain social and intellectual issues in society. The narrator looks back on his experiences with a greater perspective. There are several antagonists in the novel, who include Mr. Norton, Dr. Bledsoe, Brother Jack, and Ras the Exhorter, according to Shmoop University (2020). Mr. Norton treats the narrator as a tally and is portrayed as a narcissistic man, according to Spark Notes (2020). Dr. Bledsoe, the president of the narrator's college, is a selfish man driven by his desire to maintain his status and power in the college. Also, he cares little about his fellow Black men, including the narrator.
