Microsoft is the leading global software firm ranked as the 2nd largest corporation of the world in terms of market value (Statista, 2019). Being the dominant technology company, Microsoft ensures its market presence across the world.
2 Microsoft Strengths and Weaknesses
According to Microsoft (2018), the company’s most significant strength is the systematic up-gradation of its software which ensures constant growth of the firm. The company is known for its premium quality standards and user-friendly operating system. Cloud technology is one of the key strengths of Microsoft Company. Microsoft should formulate expansion strategies and invest more in its cloud technology which is the new buzz in the tech industry. It can provide maximum advantage to the core strength of the company (Colin & Felicia, 2016). Further research and development in cloud technology can provide a huge breakthrough to the corporation. Such an immense global presence and large product/service portfolio provide an edge to Microsoft in the highly competitive modern business context.
Microsoft’s biggest weakness is lack of innovation. The firm is reportedly accused of merely upgrading its products and services but there is hardly any new product development or innovation. The company has also been struggling to grab market share for its PCs and mobile phones. Microsoft is unable to compete with leading technology firms including Apple and Google in the hardware industry. Cybersecurity remains one of the core issues for Microsoft (Microsoft, 2018). The operating system is exposed to cyber threats and the company is incapable to deal with hackers attacking the system. The tech giant seems to make some unprofitable investment decisions like several unsuccessful acquisitions. Investment should be directed towards successful innovation and new product development rather failed acquisition. Microsoft needs robust strategies to compete in today’s high technology business environment.

2.1.1.Tangible resources.
* Financial resources include cash reserves, positive net income of the firm and investment made in different ventures,

2.1.2.Intangible resources.
Intangible Resources refers to the talent, brand recognition and value of the company. The most significant is the competent employees of the firm who have the highest contribution to the business’s success (Microsoft, 2018). Other includes patents and copyrights of its products and services which are widely violated. Microsoft’s intangible resources have more worth than its tangible resources. It has a high brand value and goodwill.
