Research Paper Instructions:

The company name that we want to discuss is "Staples Connect", please write a briefly introduction for the company and then write an explanation of the company by using "S.M.A.R.T". Try to use simple words and simple viewpoints.
Phase 1: Concept Approval
You will submit a proposed company/business for your project for approval. This can be any
organization that would benefit from a marketing plan. Your team will assume the role that you have
been hired to create a marketing plan for this organization. This organization is now your client. The
first group assignment will be a written document, not to exceed two pages (single-spaced),
providing the following information:
 Group Members
 Business/Organization Name
 Product/Service Description
 Information Resources (i.e., identify your personal contacts with the business or the sources
of the publicly available information)
 Marketing Objective (S.M.A.R.T)
Note: Each team should be prepared to present a 3-minute “elevator pitch” of their idea in class.
You will submit a hardcopy of your phase 1 before the beginning of class on the day the assignment
is due (March 6
th). Late assignments within 24 hours will be penalized and not accepted after that
time.
You will write the Phase 1 in a similar format as a business memorandum, using as much creative
thinking as you like with the layout while still meeting the requirements of business writing. Your
memo may benefit from keeping the following suggestions in mind:
 Proofread and edit your work;
 Be concise and honor the stated page limitations;
 Do not use phrases such as “I feel,” “I think,” “I believe” and “in my opinion.” These
phrases weaken your impact and message;
 Avoid using unnecessary words such as “really” and “very” that do not add value.
 Avoid lists and, instead, use bullet points after they are “introduced” with text, such as how
this list is presented.
