The quality of health services offered in the healthcare institutions has become debatable over the years. As a matter of fact, the current healthcare system has received criticism from all areas due to the low provision of medical care. As the quality officer of a big healthcare institution, I would ensure the implementation of three initiatives with the sole purpose of improving healthcare quality. One initiative will be specialization in the provision of the continuum of care instead of episodic care. Episodic care is whereby patients are treated and discharged from the hospital, and that is the end of healthcare provision there is no follow-up to find out if they are recovering or not. On the hand continuum of care is whereby patients are looked after even after they have been discharged from the hospital. It often involves direct participation of the caregiver to the life of the patient to figure out the progress that the patient is making or factors that are contributing to the illness of the patient. In the continuum of care, the caregiver looks at all perspectives of the patient to understand the primary cause of the illness including social and economic activity. It mostly applies to patients with long-term diseases.
Another initiative would for the increase in the roles of the nurses. The nurses are supposed to contribute their level best for the institution to be able to perform and offer quality care for patients. The initiative would be to ensure that additional education is provided to the nurses even while employed to show them that there is room for growth and development.
