Instructions: Answer all four questions. All graphs must be presented on graph paper (plotting paper), and then please scan and send me back.
Question 1:
A certain process requires the Gold (Au) content of the electroplating bath to be 2 g/100mL ± 0.5% at all times. This parameter is therefore monitored by the taking of samples five times a day and their confirmation. Over a certain 10 day period the following results were obtained:
Here, the data from the table, please find the attached.
Draw an X-R control chart and comment on the results.
Question 2:
The results below are from the measurement of the internal diameter of a component in mm (a) and (b) are duplicate analysis.
Here, the data from the table, please find the attached.
A) Draw an X-R control chart and comment on its structure.
B) Add the following points to your control chart (simply extend the control chart without recalculating the limits) and comment on the continued state of the process:
Here, the data from the table, please find the attached.
Question 3:
The following is a list of masses of zinc in grams found in 100g of a topical cream to treat dry skin conditions. The samples were picked randomly from the shelves of several pharmacies. The label on the tube of zinc cream states that the preparation contains 2.75g/100g of zinc.
Draw a histogram representing the data gathered and comment on the structure of the histogram and the QC of the process.
Zinc content of samples (g/100g):
1.75, 2.20, 1.68, 2.23, 2.05, 1.49, 2.30, 1.52, 1.79, 2.30, 3.15, 1.98, 1.56, 1.64, 2.01, 2.11, 3.15, 2.19, 3.33, 2.01, 2.07, 1.98, 2.66, 2.32, 1.78, 3.02, 1.45, 3.44, 2.50, 1.68, 3.07, 2.65, 2.80, 3.10, 1.99, 3.21, 1.77, 3.11, 1.98, 2.03, 2.65, 3.12, 1.86, 1.97, 2.08, 2.50, 2.64, 3.04.
Question 4:
A quality team has uncovered serious problems with the organisation’s documentation. The team have categorised each type of problem and the collated data is as follows:
Here, the data from the table, please find the attached.
Conduct a Pareto Investigation of these problems and suggest where the quality team need to focus their efforts.

Explanation
In solving the quality problems associted with the electroplating bath process, there is a need to understand the likely causes of these divergencies. Even though, variability is likely to occur, the variations may be because of random unpreventable causes, but there could also be preventable causes. The case for using the control charts is that it helps in identifying the preventable causes. This facilitates diagnosis and correction measures to ensure there are improvements and reduced wastage. The average mean for the 50 observations is 1.9 and the average range is 0.82, and while the accepted range of electrocuting bath is 2g/100mL. The Lower Control Limit and Upper Control Limit in the X-bar chart and /R chart depends on the n= 5, being the sample size for the number of observations for the 10 days, and the A2, D3 and D4 constants are 0.577, 0, and 2.144 respectively.
