Endocrine Pancreas And Blood Sugar Level Regulation

Research Paper Instructions:

Anatomy and Physiology Research Paper
Topic: Endocrine pancreas and blood sugar level regulation
Write at least three pages on the Endocrine pancreas and the blood sugar level regulation. The focus of your paper will be on feedback mechanism, insulin, glucagon. Make sure to mention the following in the body of your research paper:
1.Negative feedback mechanism.
2.Insulin secretion, action in the human body
3.Glucagon secretion action n the human body.
4.Diseases related to defects in the blood level regulation of the human body.
Research Paper Instructions:
I highly recommend consulting the writing center for this element of the assignment.
1. Length and elements: The paper length will be between 2-4 pages (do NOT go over the page limit), double spaced and typed (this does not include your title page, abstract, or references page). You must include a cover sheet with the title of your paper and your name. After the cover page (but before the body of the paper) you must include an abstract, which is a brief, comprehensive summary of the paper, no longer than 120 words. Finally, references should be listed on a separate page after the body of the paper. Margins should be no wider than 1". Please number your pages.
2. Number of references: Your paper should include a minimum of 5 references. Appropriate sources include: (a) research articles from scientific journals (not popular articles such as JAMA and ANA) (b) books. I want you to use sources that have strong scientific support. You must be able to cite your source per one of the following APA formats.
3. Appearance: All final papers should be stapled, proofread, and easy to read (no fading or smudging of ink).
4. Format: Your paper should follow one of the following the APA format. I have included examples of the APA format in this handout.
PAPER GUIDELINES
CONTENT:
1. Introduction:
a. Purpose: The purpose, problem, or question to be considered is stated clearly.
b. Interest: The author convinces the reader that the paper is worth reading in an interesting fashion.
c. Preview: The author presents a preview of how the problem will be handled.
2. Body:
a. Analysis: It is clear that an analysis of the literature has been used to support the statements made, and that the assumptions are logical.
b. Presentation of evidence
Integration: If sources contradict one another they are dealt with adequately. Multiple sources are compared if available. A simple listing of information is avoided.
The points are internally consistent, (i.e. one point follows from another), plausible and well supported.
References are recent, high quality, and appropriate to the paper topic (research articles and edited books).
c. Suitability of focus: The problem chosen is focused enough to be adequately covered in the space of the paper, but not too narrow.
d. Organization: Presentation is easy to follow and well organized.
3. Conclusion:
a. The author summarizes the findings adequately, and draws appropriate conclusions.
b. Applications of the findings are discussed.
FORM:
a. Correct spelling.
b. Grammar and use of words correct (not awkward or inappropriate)
c. Paragraph form: Topic sentences are used to introduce transitions, and the order of transitions is appropriate.
d. Borrowed ideas and statements are given credit (citations used frequently and listed in reference section).
e. The paper is in APA format.

Endocrine Pancreas and Blood Sugar Regulation

Abstract
The endocrine system has four polypeptides whose function is the regulation of activities following the secretions from the islets of Langerhans found in the pancreas. The two hormones in the endocrine system include glucagon and insulin and they have vital roles to play in the control of intermediate breakdown of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. The third polypeptide known as somatostatin has a function to control the islet cells secretions whereas the fourth polypeptide identified as the pancreatic polypeptide has an important role to play in the human body (Rizzo, 2015). The nature of insulin is anabolic and its function is to increase the storage of amino acids, glucose as well as fatty acids. On the other hand, the nature of glucagon is catabolic and its function is to mobilize the release of glucose, amino acids and fatty acids from the storage sites into the blood system. Consequently, the function of the two hormones is reciprocal and their secretion is reciprocal in most instances (Boron & Boulpaep, 2012).
Negative Feedback Mechanisms
Nearly all homeostatic regulatory mechanisms are negative feedback mechanisms. Such mechanisms adjust the variable back to their normal status or to their standard value. A good instance of a negative feedback mechanism is the regulation of blood sugar or glucose by insulin. An increase in blood sugar makes the receptors in the body to sense any adjustment. This, in turn, enables the regulation organ, which is the pancreases to release insulin into the blood efficiently hence reducing the level of blood sugar in the body. As soon as the level of blood sugar reaches homeostasis, the pancreas ceases the secretion of insulin (Hall, 2015).
Secretion Action in the Human Body Glucagon
The effects of glucagon are the contrary to the effects brought about by insulin. Both of the hormones glucagon as well as insulin ought to work in collaboration in order to ensure that there is a balance in the levels of blood sugar. Glucagon usually plays a significant role that allows the body to control the use of fats and glucose as well. The secretion of glucagon in the human body is a reaction to the incidence of low levels of blood sugar and the situations in which the body requires more glucose. A good case example is in the form of responses following a dynamic activity. The secretion of glucagon allows the stimulation of the liver to breakdown glycogen in order to prepare it for release into the blood in the form of glucose. It also activates glu...
