Diabetes and Diet
This "For Dummies" style booklet has been written to discuss Diabetes as a condition, the relationship between Diabetes and diet, and their Association with the digestive system accessory organs. When we talk about Diabetes, the first thing that should cross one's mind is blood sugar. Blood sugar is also called glucose, and it is the fuel that helps the body function well. Once a person has eaten, insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, transports glucose to various cells in the body, hence giving body energy (Lesley, C. et al., 2012). When one now has Diabetes, their body can either fail to produce insulin or the produced insulin cannot work in the body. Diabetes is termed as a condition and not a disease since there is no specific treatment but rather a management course.
There are two types of Diabetes: diabetes mellitus and Diabetes insipidus; however, the booklet will only cover Mellitus. There are two main types of Mellitus: type 1 and type 2. Other common types occur due to other changes in the body, like gestational Diabetes, which occurs during pregnancy (Jannasch, F. et al., 2017). Type 1 is also known as juvenile, and it occurs when very little to no amount of insulin is being produced. Type 2 is a long-term condition where the insulin being produce is not able to process glucose.

What causes Diabetes
According to Fabbrii A, 2017, Type 1 diabetes does not have a specific cause since it is inborn or occurs when one is still very young. It is, however, believed that one's family history could predispose them to acquire this type.
Type 2 is a lifestyle disease, meaning that a person's behavior, especially regarding diet and physical activity, plays a major role in acquiring this type. For example, those who take a lot of alcohol, overweight or obese, have a lot of fat, especially in the tummy (Colberg, S., 2012). However, one can still develop it from their family history.
Signs and symptoms of Diabetes
Each type has specific signs and symptoms, but some are general...
