Ecologial Footprint
BIOLOGY: RESEARCH PAPER.
Considering the large human population on earth and our use (or overuse) of resources greatly contributes to the loss of biodiversity, Use the calculator at http://www(dot)footprintcalculator(dot)org/ to calculate your ecological footprint.
1. If everyone lived like you, how many earths would we need?
Click on “see details”. In the “by consumption category”, place your mouse on each of the categories to get the total land area needed to support you for that category and fill in the chart below (gha = global hectares).

3. Which country had the highest ecological footprint? The lowest? Why do you think that is?
Click on “explore solutions”.
4. Which solution do you think is the most reasonable for you to implement? Why?
Now re-take the survery. Make ONE reasonable change at a time that would reduce your ecological footprint (for instance drive less, or eat vegetarian). Describe the change and record the reduction (the difference from your original value) in your Total Ecological Footprint in the table below. Reset the calculator to your original values and repeat the procedure for THREE changes.

6. Which change had the most impact in reducing your ecological footprint?
7. Seeing the reductions in footprint that occurred as a result of these changes, would you be willing to immediately implement any of them? Which ones? Explain why or why not?.

3. Which country had the highest ecological footprint? The lowest? Why do you think that is?
United Arab Emirates ranked the highest in ecological footprint because their society’s greatest resource is oil. They rely on oil for revenue, and oil is one of the greatest pollutant that affects the balance of ecosystems. Oil is also the greatest emitter of greenhouse gases.
The country of Namibia ranked the lowest in ecological footprint because it is a small country focused on wildlife and environmental preservation. Namibia houses pristine natural environments and wonderful landscape which the people value. They adjust their lifestyle and living according to the harmony with nature.

4. Which solution do you think is the most reasonable for you to implement? Why?
I think the most reasonable for me to implement is the change of diet and consumption patterns. My biggest value in the consumption category is Food and I think that I can be a lot healthier and environmental friendly if I choose to support local. I was able to realize the impact that I have as one who eats meat. Meat is a product that requires tons of other resourc...
