Assignment Guidelines
Introduce your research area and topic –Give a clear explanation of the research topic that you have chosen and show how this specific topic of research you have chosen fits into the area of Music.
Research Question, Focus and Hypothesis
Paragraph 1: Give the research question which guides your research. Explain the focus of your research. This should show clearly what it is that you are trying on find out about the topic. First begin by explaining the focus of your question. Then write why you chose this focus. You will have to show how important your focus is to the topic of research. On the whole you are trying to tell how important your research question is or any research on this topic itself is.
Paragraph 2: Write your hypothesis (thesis statement). Explain briefly the 3 supporting points in the thesis statement clearly and in details .The explanation is meant help the reader understand what is on your mind related to those points. Don’t forget to show citation for the information taken from various sources.
Section 3: Research Methodology
Mention how you are planning to conduct the research: primary and secondary research
3.1 Primary Research: Survey
Under this you can write about the plan to conduct a survey using a questionnaire. Mention who will be the target audience of your survey and what are you going to find out through your questionnaires and how many people are you planning to contact to do this survey.
You should also indicate why you decided to conduct a survey to collect data or why you think you will be able to collect good, reliable information through this survey.
3.2 Secondary Research: Published Resources
What resources/ information are you planning to use
Research journals, published reports, books etc.
You need to have 6 articles
Information about each article should be written as a separate paragraph under this section. It should have the sub-heading as Article 1, Article 2 etc.
You have to mention the name, author, and publication details of the books/articles that you are planning to use as your resources.
You must also give a brief summary of each one to help the reader get an idea of the contents of the book /article and how that is related or connected to your topic. Don’t copy the abstract of the article and submit as the summary. The summary should be written by you in your own words.
You should also indicate why you think these are good, reliable sources of information for your research.(mention where it was published, write about the author, the researches/experiments that the author has conducted to get the information given in the article etc)
4. Conclusion
Give the reason for your interest in this topic of research.
Write about the benefits of this research (to others and you- who will benefit from the research and how)
References
Under this you will list the materials (articles/books etc) you used to find information on your topic.
